President Ranil Wickremesinghe marks his 75th birthday today (24).
He was born to Esmond Wickremesinghe and Nalini Wijewardena on 24 March 1949.
Educated at Royal College, Colombo and the University of Colombo, he first entered parliament from Biyagama electorate at the 1977 general election.
Since then, he has been an MP for 47 years continually and held the premiership six times.
UNP leader for Colombo Ravi Karunanayake says president Wickremesinghe is unhesitant in accepting any challenge.
When all other party leaders declined, he accepted the premiership after ‘Aragalaya’ and fulfilled needs of the public, said Karunanayake.
Without changing officials, he managed to restore the rule of law as well, he adds.
