SLPP national organizer Basil Rajapaksa briefed President Ranil Wickremesinghe on his party’s stand with regard to upcoming elections at a meeting yesterday (21) night.

It comes after the president told the cabinet to prepare for a presidential election first.

With no final agreement reached, the two agreed to discuss the matter further.

Meanwhile, ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa commented that Basil has proposed the best course of action, although they were prepared to face any election.

If the presidential election is held first, the winner could take his side to victory at the general election, he told journalists after paying homage at Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.

To be fair by all, a general election should take place first, he claimed.
