The Uma Oya project has nothing to do with the prevailing risk of earth-slips at Karandagollda in Ella, according to geologists.

Senior professor of geology Athula Senaratne said a NBRO team found that out following an inspection of the affected area.

The cause is said to be the improper land use by people that had led to a gathering of water.

Once the steps were taken to remove the excess water, the situation has returned to normal, claimed Senaratne.

Since the tunnel of the project goes deep underground, there is not enough pressure for the water to come out above ground, he said.
