Sri Lanka’s population declined by 144,000 in 2023 to record a negative population growth after 10 years, said Prof. Wasantha Athukorale of the University of Peradeniya.
Quoting Central Bank statistics, he said the number of births too, decreased by 27,421, while deaths rose by 1,447.
Also, the number of marriages during the year dropped by 19,784.
