The SLPP leadership is meeting former heads of local government bodies from that party later today (15).
The discussion at the Nelum Mawatha headquarters on the party’s plans for the future will be chaired by national organizer Basil Rajapaksa, said a party spokesman.
Meanwhile, the leaders of government affiliate parties met president Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday and promised to continue supporting his nation-building programme.
Any arising issue could be resolved through dialogue, SLPP’s Basil Rajapaksa said, adding that direct talks with the president at least once a month would be important in that regard.
Both sides agreed that the president’s summoning of any SLPP MPs for political reasons should be done through the party only.
The meeting was attended by prime minister Gunawardena, ministers Tiran Alles, Douglas Devananda, Jeevan Thondaman and MPs Vajira Abeywardena and A.L.M. Athaulla.
