The Department of Railways incurred a Rs. 12,400 million operational loss in 2022, according to the annual report of the Central Bank.
This is a Rs. 2,100 million increase from Rs. 10,300 million loss a year earlier.
In 2022, the department had an income of Rs. 11,100 million, a Rs. 8,400 million increase from 2021.
Its expenditure stood at Rs. 42,500 million due to a considerably higher recurrent expenditure and an increase in fuel prices.
