Australia has deported 41 Sri Lankan illegal immigrants, who had been arrested and kept at Christmas Island detention centre.
The group, escorted by an Australian security team, arrived at Katunayake airport at 9.40 am today (09).
Three Australian high commission officials took them into their care and handed them over to immigration and emigration officials.
After statements are recorded from them, they are to be produced before the Negombo magistrate’s court.
These illegal immigrants, mostly residents of Jaffna and Valachchenai, had reached Australian waters by multi-day fishing vessels.
