Not just for the media, everything else in this country needs to be regulated, said chairman of Sri Lanka Foundation Saman Athaudahetti.

Also a senior journalist, he said countries with proper regulation had progressed, although in Sri Lanka, the mere word ‘regulation’ caused fears and concerns.

Politicians in power can transfer to anyone the broadcasting frequencies, which are a public property, Athaudahetti told ‘Machan’ programme telecast over Supreme TV.

Their sale and transfer to ineligible parties have led to an abuse of public property, he also said.

The programme’s presenter Shanuka Karunaratne raised media regulation, quality of electronic media programmes and other matters.
