A new circular has effectively relaxed the procedure for the registration of nongovernmental organizations operating at the grassroots level.
The National Secretariat for NGOs has issued circular no: 06 as per the Voluntary Social Service Organizations (Registration and Supervision) Act, No. 31 of 1980.
A previous circular, no. 04 of 20 November 2020, makes the process time-consuming and costly for mostly funeral aid and social services societies.
The new one, issued by the Secretariat’s director general Sanjeewa Wimalagunaratne, makes their registration efficient and cheaper.
